Mary Ruth Phillips, 55, of Leonardtown, Md., died at 9:20 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 1968 in St. Marys County Hospital, Leonardtown. She had suffered a heart attack while teaching school Friday.

She was born January 6, 1913, on the family homestead, Oak Grove Farm, in Greene County's Cumberland Township, a daughter of the late Omie F. and Rosa Belle Zimmerman Cree. Her husband, Glenn W. Phillips, whom she married July 13, 1940, survives.

She had lived most of her early life in Greene County, and had resided in Maryland since 1942.

Mrs. Phillips was a graduate of Waynesburg High School, Waynesburg College, class of 1937, and had studied at the University of Maryland and Georgetown University. She taught school in St. Marys County for 17 years, and at the time of her death was teaching in the Margaret Brent High School, Leonardtown.

She was a member of the Muddy Creek Presbyterian Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sisters: Dr. Sara Helen Cree, of Sheperdstown, W. Va.; and Mrs. James B. (Pauline) Schroyer, of Carmichaels, and one nephew, Frederick Cree Schroyer, of Bealsville.
