She was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Harry and Edna Rosean Winterburn.
A lifelong Jamestown resident, she was the widow of Donald L. Melquist, whom she married Oct. 23, 1942, and who died Oct. 6, 1998. Carol was a 1942 graduate of Jamestown High School, and in earlier years had been employed by Unigard Insurance. She later worked for many years for the MRC Credit Union.
Her greatest love was her family. She was a loving matriarch and her happiness and love for them emanated through her smile which she carried throughout her life. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving is a son, David B. (Linda) Melquist and daughter, Diane K. (Chad) Madden, both of Jamestown; eight grandchildren: Jonathan Melquist of Oklahoma City, Okla., Marcia Melquist of Virginia Beach, Va., Patty Melquist of Albuquerque, N.M., Shelly (Todd) Cordosi of Jamestown, Lori (Mike) Ducat of Lakewood, Sherry (Mark) Foster of Westlawn, Pa., and Courtney and Celeste Madden, both of Jamestown; seven great-grandchildren: Kody (Nikki) Cordosi, Kasey Cordosi, Kurry Cordosi, Audrey Ducat, Erika (Gary) Herwitz, Thomas Barlow and Kaylee Foster; two great-great-grandchildren: Jayden and Gabbriella Herwitz; a brother, Robert (Carol) Winterburn and sister, Betty J. Kettle, both of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews.
