Relationship: Father

I began this bio with the obituary from the newspaper that appeared shortly after his death. With it now posted as a photo and because there is so much more to say about this man I am starting over.
My father was devoted to family. He was loyal to his wife, children, parents, and his sister. He also had a close relationship with nieces and nephews and in-laws. He was very involved in the community -- wherever he might be. While in WV he was a member of the Lions, Toastmasters, Civitan, Shrine, Chamber, and many other organizations, often holding offices and leading committees for them. This continued in AK and later FL. He served as District Govenor for Lions in the AK/Yukon territory. He was active in Ham Radio activities.
Dad was a musician. He played in dance bands before he and Mother were married and I remember Dad on the guitar and Mom at the piano often. We sang a lot in our family: at home and on road trips. He loved big band music and I still have a Beech=Nut gum wrapper that he carried from a 1930's appearance of Art and Ted Weems and their band with all the signatures of the band members and their lead singer: Perry Como. Most of those signing went on to be big names in Big Band music.
One of the greatest lessons he taught me was to have compassion. Knowing that the cattle he and his brother-in-law were running on the farm were being poached he had the poacher "watch" the cattle. None were stolen again and the man was paid in meat for his work. His family ate and we had our cattle. He loved to fish but not to eat them so often donated his catch to others. I could go on and on about this great man. We all loved and miss him. Kathryn Hammett Gordon may be used if credit is given to the writer
