Willodean Sullivan Sledge, born April 8, 1927, in Cherokee, Ala. to Vernie and Lillie Sullivan, passed away on Jan. 18, 2013, after an extended illness. She married D.W. Sledge in 1946, who preceded her death in 1987. Mrs. Sledge was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, Texas, where she resided since 1977. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing. She worked as a nurse during World War II, but enjoyed being a homemaker, devoted wife and mother most of her life. Mrs. Sledge was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Billie Turberville and Aline Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Sledge Serna and husband, Jim; brothers, Cecil, Charles, Bobby, William and Kenneth Sullivan; sisters, Jewel Turberville, Betty Johnson and Mary Aldridge; numerous nephews; nieces; and four stepgrandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association . The family wishes to offer their heartfelt thanks to Betty Walker, Mary Champion and the staff of Hospice Compassus for their loving care of our mother and family.
