MALONE — Robert George Bombard, 70, of Malone, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at the Fletcher Allen Medical Facility in Burlington, Vt.

Born in Malone, Aug. 4, 1938, he was a son of Claude and Bertha (Tebo) Bombard.

He attended Malone schools and on Oct. 22, 1966, he married Judith Fayette at Trinity Episcopal Church in Plattsburgh.

Mr. Bombard was a farmer all his life. In later years, he drove a bus for North Star Industries and retired in 2007.

Bob was a gentle and kind man who would do almost anything for anyone. He was very well-liked and loved by all who knew him. He was a born farmer and he dedicated his life to it. Farming was his passion. He was a very hardworking man who was proud and strong. Nothing could keep him down. He survived the most difficult of times and still had that most wonderful smile on his face. He especially loved spending time with his siblings and getting all of his children together for picnics and holidays. He loved family dinners, fishing, puzzle books, working in the garden and going for car rides.

He greatly loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother. He gave his all to us and made many sacrifices to do so. We all love him and thank him for everything he did for us. He was and will continue to be a very important part of our lives. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife Judith; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert Bombard and his wife Mildred of North Bangor, John Bombard and his wife LeAnne of Hawesville, Ky.; three daughters, Carol Bombard and her companion James Hellyer of North Lawrence, Ann Bombard and her companion Elizabeth Moody of Malone and Tara Bombard of Plattsburgh; six brothers and three sisters-in-law, Leon of Malone, Donald and his wife Judy of Constable, Charles and his wife Jane of Canton, Claude Jr. of Bangor, John of Constable and Joseph and Debbie of Malone; four grandchildren, Brandon Bombard of Chateaugay, Ashley Noreault of Malone and McKenzie and Morgan Bombard of Hawesville, Ky.; one great-grandchild, Destiny Noreault of Malone; three step grandchildren, David Laverture of Bombay, Kevin Augusta of Malone and John Grant of Moira; two step great-grandchildren, Trey LaGrave of Malone and Miranda Laverture of Bombay; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne Bombard; a brother, Harold; and two sisters, Julia Charland and Alice Visilli.

Calling hours were held for family and friends at the Spaulding Funeral Home from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday morning, with the Rev. Bill Bond presiding. Interment will be in West Bangor Cemetery.
