Services for Dead Marine Corps Officer to Be Held Today
The funeral of Lieutenant Samuel Hopper Gibson, United States Marine Corps, retired, who died suddenly Tuesday at Atlantic City will take place at 10 o'clock this morning from St. Paul's Catholic Church, Fifteenth and V Streets Northwest. Burial with full military honors will be made at Arlington National Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Admiral F.E. Beatty, General W.H. Carter, Colonel B. Reeves Russell, Brigadier General Charles Heywood, Major Lewis Merriam, Lieutenant Commander Downs L. Wilson, Dr. James G. McKay and St. Julian B. Dapray.
The news of Lieutenant Gibson's sudden death was a shock to his large circle of friends in this city, where he had made his home since his retirement. He was born in Maryland, a member of one of the oldest and most prominent families of that States. The late Senator Gibson, who represented Maryland in the United States Senate for a number of years, was a brother. Lieutenant Gibson is survived by his wife, two sons and four daughters.
