Mrs. Mary Belle Hughes, aged 63 years, wife of Frank Hughes, died at their home near Rutan, Tuesday, August 29. She had been ill for several months. Mrs. Hughes was a daughter of William and Rebecca Davis Kinney, and was born June 19, 1870, in Jackson township. She was twice married. Her first husband, John L. Pethtel, died in 1911. She later was united in marriage with Frank Hughes, who with the following children survives, Charles L. (Verna) Pethtel, Wind Ridge, William O. (Cynthia) Pethtel of Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Samuel (Dora) McVay, Mrs. John (Myrtle) McVey, Mrs. James (Thelma) Knight, Washington, Pa.; Mrs. Orville (Jane) Sanders, Hickory, and Mrs. Floyd (Blanche) Watson, Rutan. One brother also survives, Robert Kinney, Holbrook, and 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
