Elizabeth was the daughter of King Johann I of Saxony and his wife Princess Marie-Emelie Auguste of Bavaria.
He married Fernando Maria Alberto, 1st Duke of Genoa, on 22 April 1850. They were the parents of Maria-Margarita, Queen of Italy, and Tomasso Alberto, 2nd Duke of Genoa.
the early death of Ferdinand left her a widow at age 25.
