Sarah Bostwick was born in New Milford. She was the eldest daughter of Nathaniel Bostwick and Esther Weller Hitchcock. She married Sherman Boardman, also of New Milford, in that town on Dec 3, 1755. They had 8 children: Daniel b. 1757; David b. 1758; Hon. Elijah b. 1760; Esther b. 1762; Hon. Homer b. 1764; Orinda b. 1767; Hon. David Sherman Boardman b. 1768, and David Sherman Boardman b. 1768 (following the death of his young brother also named David Boardman). Sarah's portrait was done in 1796 in New Milford by artist Ralph Earl.
