He was the son of Samuel Ringgold and his second wife, Marie Hay Ringgold.

On November 7, 1836 as George H. Ringgold, United States Army, he married Mary M. Smith at St. Louis, Missouri.

Mary Smith Ringgold died on April 29, 1850 at Washington City, District of Columbia.

Per The South Carolina Historical Magazine, Volume 4, on June 18, 1851, he married Mary Condy.

Per The South Carolina Historical Magazine, Volume 4, their first child was Mary Elizabeth Ringgold who was born May 10, 1852 in South Carolina.

Death Of Lieutenant Colonel Ringgold.

Lieut. Colonel George H. Ringgold, Deputy Paymaster General, died yesterday at his residence in this city, after an illness of but a few days' duration. Colonel Ringgold has been a citizen of San Francisco since 1855. By birth he was a native of Maryland but was appointed to West Point from the District of Columbia. He was first commissioned in 1833, receiving the commission which he bore at his death as Lieutenant Colonel of the Army, on the 28th of May 1862. Colonel Ringgold was a married man and had a large family. He was a man of considerable literacy accomplishments and was very generally esteemed in all the walks of life. A military funeral will be given him from St. Mary's Cathedral tomorrow. Six companies under the command of Colonel Sibley will escort the body to the burying ground. The services at the Cathedral commence at 11 and close at 12 o'clock. Lieut. Colonel Babbitt, Lieut. Colonel Drumm, Major Bowman, Major Sprague and Captain McAllister are the pall bearers.

Original interment at Calvary Cemetery in San Francisco.
Later his remains were removed to Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma.
