Squadron, 379th Bomb Group, operating from
England, was lost on a mission to strike
German military targets near Bordeaux,
France. The aircraft # is not known.
William was the youngest of eight boys and
one girl born to Richard Thomas Whitt Sr.
and Mildred Annabelle "Annie" Sowers.
William was married to Lena Alma Johnson, a
Corporal in the WACs at the time of his death.
They had no children together. Leta remarried
to George Ivan Satterfield in 1954, and had
two sons.

S/Sgt William F Whitt was flying in an aircraft called "Stump Jumper" 42-30237 (WA-V) It is my understanding that he was with the 524th Squadron. He was a ball turret gunner and was killed by a piece of flak on his 7th mission.
