Norma Silverman Belz, 91, beloved wife of Abe Belz (of blessed memory), passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on November 2, 2009. Norma was the loving mother of Marlene Libby, Sherry Goldberg (Mitch), Linda Nahmias and Gloria Belz. "Nanny" was the grandmother of eight grandchildren: Ricky Libby, Steve Libby, Robin Libby Bloomston, Alan Goldberg, Stuart Goldberg, Hal Goldberg, Adam Nahmias and Evan Nahmias. She also leaves behind her brother Harvey Silvar of Chicago, IL; 22 great-grandchildren and countless loving relatives and friends. Norma was a lifelong member of Baron Hirsch Synagogue, Hadassah, and active member and volunteer of the Memphis Jewish Community Center. She was delighted to receive a "Certificate of Excellence" from the Memphis Jewish Home, which honored her 40 years of dedicated service. In addition to her expertise with the jump rope, superior matzoh ball soup and peanut butter balls, Norma had a kind word or expression for everyone she met. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and cherished her. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 4 at the Sam Abraham Chapel in Baron Hirsch Cemetery. The family requests any memorials be sent to the Memphis Alzheimer's Association or "Dorothy's Place" Alzheimer's Day Care Center or to a charity of donor's choice.
