Charles Frederick Hautau, Sr was the son of Henry Hautau and Emma Stephani. He was the husband of Margaret Llewellyn.

Pvt. Charles F Hautau, was born 10-27-1878, died 11-6-1958, he served in Co. D, 2nd Illinois Infantry, Bravo, Allegan Co., Michigan. He served for a year, enlisting on 4-26-1898 and was discharged 4-26-1899. Veterans Administration Master Index card #C 2285736, also noted #SC 1 607 454. Familysearch film # 105208467. This was during the Spanish American War.

Lewis Institute Bulletin, Chicago, IL, Jul 1909, p 46 says: Hautau. Charles, '98. Iowa mailing division, Chicago Post Office. Address: 966 West Monroe St., Chicago. His sister Emma, is also mentioned in it.

The birth certificates of daughters Leona Vera on 23 Aug 1916 and Aileen Margaret on 25 Aug 1914, both state their father Charles Frederick Hautau was born in Chicago IL Cook Co., IL Certificate of Birth (FS).

On the 1940 Lee, Allegan, Michigan census, I found farmer Charles F Hautau, 61, IL born; wife Marguette Hautau, 61, PA; sons: Gordon Hautau, 26, IL and Robert A Hautau, 21, IL born.

On 27 Apr 1942, he registered for the draft. Charles Fredrick Hautau was born 27 Oct 1878 in Chicago, Illinois. He resided in Fenneville, MI with Margaret Hautau. He was self employed and 5' 9 1/2", 175 lbs, with brown eyes and gray hair. World War II Draft Registration card (FS). See photo.
