J. Leazure Phillips, 82, of near Kuhntown, Pine Bank, RD 2, died at 9:10 PM, Sunday, April 30, 1944, following an illness of four weeks of complications.

Mr. Phillips was well known in the Kuhntown community, where he was born May 16, 1862, a son of Jesse and Mary Spragg Phillips. He was a member of the Kuhntown Methodist Church. He was a superintendent and teacher in the Sunday Scool for many years. He was also a member of IOOF Lodge at Kuhntown.

He was married 57 years ago to Elizabeth Jane Cole, who survives. He also leaves the following children: Mrs. Fred L. Headley, of Pine Bank, and William Layton Phillips, of Pine Bank, RD 2. A son, Walt L. Phillips, died in France during World War I.

He was of a family of 15 children, four of whom are living . Mrs. Deborah Finchum, of Woodward, Oklahoma; Levi Phillips and Thomas E. Phillips of Spraggs and Dr. George Phillips, of Morgantown, W. Va.

There are six grandchildren, three of whom are in the service.
