Death: Jul. 6, 1939

United States Army General. He graduated from Harvard University in 1897, enlisted for the Spanish-American War in the 9th Massachusetts Infantry, advanced in rank to become the regiment's Sergeant Major, and took part in combat in Cuba. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1901, became an attorney, and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant. Logan served on Boston's City Council from 1899 to 1900, as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1901 to 1902, and as a State Senator from 1906 to 1907. In 1907 he was appointed Judge of the Municipal Court, a position he held for 25 years. In 1912 he became commander of the 9th Regiment, and in 1916 it served in Texas during the Villa expedition. In 1917 it was mobilized for World War I, re-designated as the 101st Regiment, part of the 26th (Yankee) Infantry Division, and saw combat in France throughout World War I. While in France, Logan and several other 26th Division officers were relieved for alleged incompetence, and he successfully defended all of them. In 1921 he was promoted to Brigadier General as commander of the 26th Division's 1st Brigade, and in 1923 he was named division commander as a Major General. He retired from the military in 1938 and received promotion to Lieutenant General in recognition of his service and his efforts as head of the American Legion in Massachusetts and President of the National Guard Association of the United States. Boston's international airport is named for him. (bio by: Bill McKern)
