OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN)
The death of Valentine A. Mattern, 82, Wabash county, occured Saturday night at 8 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Scott, three miles north of Wabash. Mr. Mattern died of heart failure and had been ill for about ten days.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Jones funeral home and burial will be at the Falls cemetery. Funeral services will be in charge of Rev. H. J. Weber.
The decedent was born in 1848 and has lived all his life in Wabash county. He at one time had the Mattern Dry Goods store here in Wabash.
Preceding him in death are his parents who were born in Bavaria, Germany; his wife, Caroline Schwartz Mattern; one brother, two sisters and a son, Carl H. Mattern.
Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Oliver Scott; two granddaughters, Mrs. Joe Miller of Marion, Miss Caroline Scott; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Mattern and Mrs. Fred Zimmer, Wabash, Mrs. Lew Yentes, Andrews; two brothers, A.E. Mattern, Andrews and John Mattern, Lincolnville.
