Hiram Jerome Edwards, one of the old citizens of Macon county, died at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning at the State hospital in Jacksonville. He was seventy-eight years old. His death was due to the infirmities of old age.
He had been failing steadily for several years. He had been in the hospital only a few months.
WAS WELL KNOW.
Mr. Edwards was born in Macon county, about seven miles southwest of Decatur, and had lived here all his life.
He was known to all the old residents of the county and was held in high regard. He was a member of the Old Settlers' association,and for years was one of the most enthusiastic members of the Macon county hunting party.
This party used to make annual trips to Arkansas, Missouri or some other state where wild game was plentiful and spend about a month camping in the woods.
OTHERS IN PARTY.
Besides Mr. Edwards there were in the party Silas Packard, John R. Miller, Captain W. E. Bingham, Dr. W. J. Chenoweth, Noah Jacobs, Thomas Lord, Jerry Turpin, Tom Stoner, John May, and sometimes two or three others.
Edmiston McClellan and Mr. Stamper often accompanied the party. Only a few of the member of the old hunting party are left.
FIVE CHILDREN
Mr.Edwards' wife died last fall. He is survived by five children: William Franklin Edwards of Harristown township, Wabash Engineer J. Thomas Edwards of Decatur, Jacob Theron Edwards of Harvel, Il.,Jerome Edwards, Jr., of Decatur. and Mrs. S.U.Bear of Harristown.
The body will be brought to the Brintlinger undertaking establishment this evening by Mahlon Brlntlinger and prepared for burial.
