Fred D. Alexander
Fred D. ALEXANDER, 65, died at 5:57 a.m. today at Woodlawn hospital after a four-week illness. He resided at 1125 Main street in Rochester.
A resident of the city for 57 years, Mr. Alexander came here from Kokomo. He was born in Tipton county, Jan. 10, 1893, the son of Austrilia and Jessie DABNEY ALEXANDER. He was married June 28, 1931, in Attica, to Minnie M. CESSNA, who survives.
A veteran of World War I duty in France, Mr. Alexander was a charter member of the Leroy Shelton Post 36, American Legion, in this city. He also was a member of the First Baptist church and of the Rochester Masonic Lodge No. 79.
Recently retired from active employment, he had worked at the Coffee Shop and at the Topps garment factory. Active in city Democrat party circles he was a former treasurer of the Democrat city Committee.
Surviving, besides the wife, are two daughters, Ms. Betty Lou HAYDEN, Rochester, and Mrs. Mary Jo HANNSEN, Norfolk, Va.; three grandchildren, Dennis HAYDEN and Sharon and Donnie HANNSEN, his mother, Mrs. Austrilia ALEXANDER, Elkhart; two brothers, Frank [ALEXANDER], Rochester, and William [ALEXANDER], Elkhart; one sister, Mrs. Geneva COOPER, Elkhart, and several nieces and nephews. His father and one sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Foster & Good funeral home with the Rev. Richard MITCHELL officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery here. The Leroy Shelton Post, American Legion, will conduct graveside rites. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Friday.
