Winifred E. Smith, 89, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2006 at a Topeka care facility. She was born on August 31, 1917 in Holton, the daughter of Knox S. and Clara J. Reiderer Shaw.

She graduated from Holton High School. Winnie moved to Topeka in 1934. She was the House Manager for Robert Brock and served in the same position for Governer Robert Bennett. She loved gardening and poetry.

Winnie married James B. Smith in 1947. He preceded her in death. She married Hugh Smith in 1980. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Bennett of Holton, two daughters, Marilyn K. Creason of Topeka, Gwen J. Juneau of Overland Park, five grandchilden, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

A graveside gathering will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Holton Cemetery. Burial will follow.

Winnie will not lie in state. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
