Diane Dawson Perkins 9/28/1934 ~ 11/27/2009 Diane Dawson Perkins, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, age 75, passed away November 27, 2009 following complications of surgery in Salt Lake City, UT surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Ogden, UT on September 28, 1934. Her parents were William A. and Gladys Norton Dawson. Her early years were spent in Layton, UT. Later she moved to Washington D.C. where her father served as a U.S. Congressman. She graduated from East High School in 1952. She later attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO, the University of Maryland, and the University of Utah where she studied nursing. Diane met and married Waldo C. Perkins when she was a nursing student and he was a medical student. She was married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 10, 1956. Following her marriage, she moved with her husband to Cleveland, OH where Waldo completed his medical training. She is the mother of six children and raised them in her present home in Salt Lake City where she has resided since 1960. Diane was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations. She was also an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was called to serve a mission with her husband to the Hawaii Honolulu Mission from 1989-1992 where she served as the mission mother to her beloved missionaries. Upon her return home she faithfully served for five years with her husband in driving and hosting visitors from the airport to tour Temple Square. Following this service she served as a hostess at the Conference Center for three years and since that time has served faithfully in the Salt Lake Temple. Diane's greatest love in life was serving her family and taking care of her dearest Waldo. There was nothing that she wouldn't do for her family. She was truly a best friend to all of her children, always willing to listen, support, and offer encouragement. She had a keen memory to know one's likes and dislikes and the innate ability to make people feel special, loved, and remembered. She was a true matriarch hosting family gatherings on a regular basis. She was an excellent chef, developing and sharing treasured recipes among family and friends. She loved the piano, often playing for her children. She was blessed with the ability to love and care for people. She volunteered for many years as a Pink Lady at LDS Hospital and later at the University of Utah Hospital. She was an avid bowler and tennis player, collecting many trophies over the years. She loved traveling the world and spending time with her family in St. George, UT. Survived by her husband: Dr. Waldo C. Perkins; three daughters: Melanie Meinzer, Stephanie (Alan Lake), Suzette (Greg Duce); three sons: Bret (Joanna), Daniel (Susan), Dr. Matthew (Ruth Ann); 23 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Billie D. Sherwood (Clifton); brother-in-law, Eugene H. Perkins; and sister-in-law, Merial P. Overlade. Preceded in death by her parents, William A. and Gladys Norton Dawson. Funeral services for Diane will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 12:00 noon at the Monument Park Stake Center, 1320 South Wasatch Drive, Salt Lake City, UT. Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, and on Wednesday morning at the church from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to services.
