Cartoonist, Author. He was the creator and illustrator of "The Adventures of Tintin" comic books. Born in Brussels, Belgium, he showed an early interest in drawing. Participation in the Boy Scouts movement spurred his affinity for travel and adventure. Using the pen name Hergé, he created a number of cartoon characters, the most famous being Tintin. The daring boy-reporter and his trusty friends were featured in twenty-four books which have been published worldwide in over fifty languages. The stories were also made into five films and a television series. The final book, "Tintin and Alph-Art" was incomplete upon Hergé's death but was later published in unfinished form. Many events have been planned to commemorate the artist's centenary including: a Belgian stamp issue; laying of the foundation stone for a new Hergé Museum in Louvain-La-Neuve; special exhibitions in Stockholm, Quebec, Barcelona and Paris; and a trilogy of feature films.
