Major League Baseball Player, Coach. For eleven seasons (1937 to 1942, 1946 to 1950), he played in the outfield and at the first base positions with the New York Yankees. He made his big league debut on May 11, 1937 and batted .320 in 67 games during that season. Henrich was part of a formidable lineup which included Hall of Fame legends Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Bill Dickey. He was a member of six World Champion teams (1937 to 1939, 1941, 1947 and 1949 Yankees), appearing in 21 World Series games, recording 22 total hits with a .262 postseason batting average. He did not participate in the 1937 and 1939 World Series. His career was interrupted due to his service in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He put up stellar numbers during the 1947 World Series, posting a .323 batting average with 1 home run and five runs driven in against the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a five-time American League All Star (1942, 1947 to 1950), and led the league in runs scored (1948 with 138) and triples (1947 with 13 and 1948 with 14). In 1,284 regular season games, he recorded 1,297 hits with a lifetime .282 batting average. Following his playing career, he served as a coach with the Yankees (1951), New York Giants (1957) and Detroit Tigers (1958 to 1959). (bio by: C.S.)
