Pvt., 34th NC Inf, CSAStanhope as he was called joined the Confederate states army during the civil war, he enlisted on 9-2-1861.He was wounded in the Right shoulder and hospitalized in Richmond, Va on 7-1-1862. When he recovered he returned to duty and was wounded a second time, this time he was his right leg at Chancellorville, VA on 5-3-1863. He was amoung those who surrendered at Appamattox Court House in Virgina.
He and his wife Tempia had 8 children.
