N8KKF passed away dec 7 2009 at a local care facility at the age of 89. I have heard often by those who knew this man, that he was truly one of the kindest.

Kenneth Edward Sanders, age 89, of Grand Haven, passed away on December 7, 2009, at a local care facility. He was born on October 19, 1920, in Laurium, MI, to Frederick & Hilda (Terrill) Sanders. He graduated from Calumet High School and attended Wayne State University for two years and was drafted in the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he attended Radio school in Missouri and then transferred to the Army Infantry. He obtained the rank of Master Sergeant and served in the Battle of the Bulge, 75th Infantry Division, 289 Battalion. He married Shirley Brinkman on November 22, 1941 in Lucas County, OH. Ken retired from the Chrysler Corporation in 1980 and moved to Grand Haven from Royal Oak, MI in 1990. He was also a Ham Radio Operator since 1963. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and a life member of the Free and Accepted Masons. He received his membership from Berkley Lodge #536. He was also a member of the York Rite Bodies and served on the Temple Board Association in Grand Haven. Ken is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, David (Cindi) Sanders of Grand Haven; grandchildren Matthew (Amiste) Sanders and Michael Sanders of Grand Haven; great-grandson Noah Krey; sister Marjorie Wiese of Bowie, MD; and nieces Diane Rothman, Alexandria, VA; Linda Conner, Prince Fredrick, MD. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Betsy K. Sanders in 1963. The memorial service for Ken will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2009, at St. John's Episcopal Church with The Rev. John E. Laycock officiating. Full Military Rites by Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post #28. Members of Grand Haven Masonic Lodge #139 F. & A. M., will also be in attendance. Interment will be at Roseland Park Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be given to St. John's Episcopal Church.
