Civil War Union Army Surgeon. An 1856 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's Medical Department, he served as a Surgeon during the Civil War at Philadelphia's Satterlee United States Army General Hospital and at the Chestnut Hill United States Army Hospital.

He was the son of scientist Samuel George Morton and the brother of Civil War General James St. Clair Morton.
