Actress. Best remembered as the long-suffering character Carol Post, whose husband talked to a horse in the early 1960s television hit "Mister Ed". Raised in a theatrical family, she took to the stage as a youngster and later pursued a career as a model in Florida and New York. Recently divorced and nearly broke when she relocated to Hollywood in 1959, she made her only documented silver screen appearance in the 1960 stock car-themed "Thunder in Carolina". Hines had better luck on TV with roles in several shows of the time, including "The Untouchables", "Sea Hunt", and "The Millionaire", before her big break came when she landed the part of Carol in "Mister Ed". Her primary job on that series was reacting to the one-way-byplay between Alan Young and the title character. "Mister Ed" ran on CBS from 1961 through 1965; after it was cancelled she continued with occasional television performances in "Medical Center", "Bonanza", and other series. In 1989 Hines settled with her husband, attorney Lee Savin (deceased 1995), in Dana Point, California, where she hosted a cable show offering pets for adoption. She also returned to the stage from time to time, as when she rejoined Alan Young for the 1996 "Love Letters". Hines died of heart disease, her final years having seen her gain a new generation of fans via reruns of "Mister Ed".
