Jolo--Mrs Gladys Shelton, 79, of Jolo, died Friday, May 7, 1999, in a Richlands, Va. hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born in McDowell County and was the daughter of the late Adam and Zettie Goodman Hagerman, both Jolo natives. She was a lifelong resident of the Jolo area, was a homemaker and a member of Crossview Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hurley "Nick" Shelton; one half-sister, Lois Jean Hagerman; one grandson; Adam Wesley Shelton; and her step-mother, Gladys Hagerman Blankenship.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lilly Waldron of Lerona and Mrs Sue Honaker of Raven, Va.; four sons, Adam Shelton of Lincoln Park, Mich., David Shelton of Lincoln Park, Patrick Shelton of the home and Clifford Shelton of Jolo; two sisters Mrs Vernie Bales and Mrs Alice Beavers both of Jolo; one half-sister, Mrs Rosie Keith of Archdale, N.C.; two brothers, John Pete Hagerman of Round Lake Beach, Ill. and Dave Hagerman of Jolo; two half-brothers, Adam Hagerman, Jr. of Archdale, N. C. and Roy Kenneth Hagerman of Sophia, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Crossview Church of Christ on State Line Ridge near Paynesville, with Preacher Hobert Kennedy and Elder Herbert Sweet Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery at Pea Patch. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call at the church after 5 p.m. Sunday.
