KALMAN.--Katharine Walter Kalman, M.D. was born in Elkton, Maryland, to Geoge T. R. Walter and Pauline Frederick Walter. Katharine knew from age 5 that she was to be a doctor, and she achieved that goal after attending American University and George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She met and married her husband while both were residents and, shortly thereafter, started a family. Family life and the practice of medicine were her two passions but she also loved music, the ourdoors, tennis, socializing and shopping. She spent over 20 years as a pulmonary physician at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital, and later worked with TB patients at various LA County Health Clinics until fully retiring at age 80. She had also been Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at LAC-USC. Katharine was predeceased by her 8 year old daughter Kathleen, and brothers Thomas and Harry Walter. She is survived by husband Albert, daughters Andrea and Sheila, son Brian and sister Naomi Thompson. Graveside service Saturday, Dec. 26 at 1:00 p.m.; Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes.
