George Washington Wehunt was a Union soldier during the Civil War, who served in Co.K, Regiment 12, Tennessee Cavalry. His first wife was Martha Edwards. They were married in 1862 or 1863 in Lumpkin or Dawson County, Georgia. They were later divorced or separated. He states in his pension records that his first wife died in Tennessee in 1867. He married his second wife, Evaline "Avey" Kelly, 26 March 1868 in Bartow County, Georgia. According to pension records, a letter of affidavit states the date of death of Avey E. Wehunt; 18 February 1935.

George and Avey had the following 8 children:
