"CHARLES LEIST, ROCKWELL HOTEL MAN, SUMMONED
Death came to another county pioneer yesterday afternoon when Charles J. Leist, formerly a business man in this city and for the last fifteen years proprietor of the Allwood Siding hotel at Rockwell succumbed after an illness of six weeks. Mr. Leist made a trip to Rochester, Minn., to consult specialists in an effort to gain relief but was advised that an operation would be of little benefit. He returned home and has failed steadily, death coming shortly after 4 o'clock Monday after noon. The funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 10 O'clock at St. Anne's Catholic church at Francis Creek.
Mr. Leist was seventy-three years old and was born in this county, not a great distance from where his death occurred. He was married nearly fifty years ago to Miss Denor and a daughter born to the couple died about twelve years ago. For a number of years the Leists made their home in this city and conducted the "Gruenen Aesel" saloon on North Ninth street, leaving here fifteen years ago to engage in the hotel business at Rockwell. Besides the aged widow one sister Mrs. Lean Paswealk and one brother, John Leist of Spokane, Washington survive."
