"Mrs. Frances Leist, 97, of Rt. 5, Manitowoc, died Saturday evening at the Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Mittnacht Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The Rev. Joseph Rauch will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was born Frances Linsmeier in Germany in 1856, and came to Manitowoc County with her parents at an early age. The family settled in the town of Franklin. In 1886 she was married to Charles Leist and they operated a tavern in Manitowoc on North Ninth Street for 25 years.
Later the Leists took over the Round Hall tavern on County Trunk Q for several years. They later moved to Rockwood where a tavern was operated for several years. Her husband died in 1923. She continued to make her home in Rockwood.
Survivors are two grandsons, Leonard Meyer of Rt. 2, Manitowoc, and Clarence Meyer of Rt. 5, Manitowoc; 12 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home where the Rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. Monday by the St. Ann Christian Mothers Society of which she was a member."
