James Bryan, 77, of Waynesburg, Dies of Injuries Received When Hit By Auto Near Home

James Bryan, aged 77 years, 11 months and one day, well-known and highly respected retired dairyman of 1030 East High street, Waynesburg, died yesterday morning, at eight o'clock, in the Greene County Memorial Hospital, from injuries suffered Saturday evening when struck by a hit-and-run driver near his home.
Mr. Bryan suffered a brain concussion, fracture of the skull and a compound fracture of the right leg.
State motor police and local borough police, investigating the fatality, reported last night that no arrest had yet been made.
Mr. Bryan was struck while walking towards his home. The driver is said to have stopped his machine, but got back in and fled when another motorist, who had stopped, asked aid in carrying Mr. Bryan to his home.
Mr. Bryan was born April 23, 1863, at Ayreshire, Scotland, a son of James and Agnes Pettigrew Bryan, deceased.
He left Scotland February 15, 1887, and came to Waynesburg where he worked for the late M. W. Bayers at the old Locust Point Dairy. Later, he purchased the dairy and still later he opened the present Waynesburg Sanitary Dairy, located on East High street, which he has successfully operated for a number of years.
An active church worker, he was a member of the Morrisville Methodist Church for a number of years. He was a member of the East Franklin Grange, Waynesburg Lodge 469, I.O.O.F. and Encampment No. 119 of the same lodge and for a number of years served as president of the I.O.O.F. and Masonic Building Association. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. for nearly fifty years.
He married Anna Kennedy, who died in 1938.
Surviving are four daughters as follows: Grace, wife of Albert Flowers, Hickory; Emma, wife of Carl M. Spragg, and Betty, wife of W. S. Cross, both of Waynesburg, and Lucille, wife of Dr. C. M. Spangler, Philadelphia. Three sons, John K. Bryan and William Bryan, both of Waynesburg, and J. R. Bryan, Beaver Falls, also survive.
