Recent Meeting On Decker Memorial Had Good Results
The meeting held Thursday, January 28th, at the Johnsonburg American Legion, for the purpose of deciding what to do with the Decker Memorial plaque held good results. After much discussion it was clear that the best place for the Memorial would be on the American Legion lawn. If the plaque was returned to its original location it could not be viewed without parking across the street and walking to it. With traffic this could cause a hazard and in the winter the snowplow would cover it with snow and slush. It would also not be lit at night, creating a possible vandalism problem. At the Legion it could be nicely landscaped, possibly lit at night and viewed by all who pass by. The plan is to have the plaque mounted on the front of a piece of granite, and have a picture of the original memorial as seen in the 1920s etched on the other side of the plaque. The new memorial will not look anything like the beautiful monument it once was, but after thirty years it will be a piece of Johnsonburg's history given back to the people of the community. It should make the downtown area look better too and that is another plus. If you would like to donate to this project please make your check payable to: Johnsonburg Veterans Memorial Fund, and send in care of: Rachel Kilhoffer, Johnsonburg Borough, 100 Main Street, Johnsonburg, PA 15845. Any funding left over from this endeavor will be used to maintain the Johnsonburg Veteran's Memorial and the Decker Memorial. Even though the Johnsonburg Veteran's Memorial was built to be maintenance free, it still needs fixing-up from time to time. If you would like your donation in honor of or in memory of someone, please note that with your donation,
