Suicide Jap Plane's Damage Kills S. Millirans
Sherman Leroy Millirans, F 1-c, 23, husband of Mrs. Doris Millirans, 923 Fairview-av, died May 7 of wounds incurred on April 24 when his destroyer in the South Pacific was damaged by a Kamikaze or Japanese suicide dive bomber. His wife, who resides with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert May, was informed of his death in a telegram and letter received recently from the Navy Department.
The message stated that the Lima man was buried on a mid-Pacific island with full military honors and that he had been awarded the Purple Heart.
Fireman Millirans entered the service in June, 1944 and was sent overseas during the first week of January, 1945. He had received his training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station.
Surviving besides his wife are a three-year-old daughter, Diana, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Esty V. Millirans and a brother, Eugene, 916 St. Johns-av. A sister, Mrs. Clara Haver, 481 S. Central-av, and a brother, Robert James Millirans, S 2-c, serving in the South Pacific, also survive.
