Donald enlisted in the US Army 22 July 1965, at a recruiting office in Denver, Colorado.
When Donald arrived in Vietnam 15 July 1966, he was assigned to B Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry, 196th Infantry Brigade, USARV. The battalion was participating in Operation Attleboro, When B Company was engaged by hostile forces 6 kilometers northwest of Dau Tieng Base. Donald died as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds to the body from a hostile explosive device.
SSgt Cassidy served his country for 3 years Sandra M Cassidy, and his daughter; Marie S Cassidy of 2902 North Troy Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, and his father; William Cassidy of 7649 Commonwealth Boulevard, Bellerose, New York.
