PHILIP SWART, born 20 Oct 1797. Son of Pvt. Jacob Swart a Revolutionary War Soldier. Husband of Asenah Walton Swart. Father of four Union Army soldiers: Pvt. Amos Swart, Co D, 140th PA Vols., KIA Spottsylvania, Va.; Pvt. John Swart, Co D, 140th PA Vols. and later in Co H, 53rd PA Vols., died and buried Audubon, Iowa; Pvt. Henry Swart, Co D, 140th PA Vols., severely wounded Spottsylvania, Va.; and Pvt. Andrew J. Swart, Co E, 12th PA Reg. later enlisted in Co D, 140th PA Vols.
