Ruth E. (Stewart) Gourley, 86, of Bedford, Ind., formerly of Gilpin Township, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, in Johnson Christian Village in Bedford. She was born May 11, 1923, in Kepple Hill, Parks Township, a daughter of the late David E. Stewart and Martha A. (Turner) Stewart.

Mrs. Gourley had experience as a pediatric nurse and was also a former Stanley Products Representative for more than 25 years.

She was a lifelong member of Pleasant View Brethren Church, Kepple Hill, Parks Township, where she was a former deaconess, Sunday School teacher and organist. She was also a member of the Women's Missionary Society.

She is survived by her son, John W. (Carol) Gourley, of Vandergrift; daughters, Anne E. Gourley, of Seabrook, Texas, and Susan Irene Shutt (David H.) Miller, of Bedford; seven grandchildren, Matthew and Adam Davis, of Seabrook, Marilyn (Chad) Keister, of Charlotte, N.C., Joel (Janette) Miller, of Spring Arbor, Mich., Laurie Miller, of Bloomington, Ind., Aaron (Shelley) Miller, of Zeeland, Mich., and Sarah (Bobby) Brown, of Indianapolis, Ind.; four stepgrandchildren, James (Erica) Callipare, of Ford City, Jennifer (Tim) Redemer, of Avonmore, Steve (Beth) Patoka and Terry (Jennifer) Patoka, both of Vandergrift; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Shutt, who died Oct. 12, 1942; second husband, J. Albert Gourley, who died Dec. 1, 1999; brothers, David A. Stewart and Robert T. Stewart; and sisters, Enid Armstrong, Phyllis Odelius and Doris Dennison.

Friends will be welcomed by her family from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at CLAWSONS, Leechburg, where funeral ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. Monday with her pastor, the Rev. T.J. McLaughlin, officiating.

Interment following in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
