Mrs. Mary E. Crouse

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Crouse, aged 81, widow of Enos G. Crouse, of Rogersville, died at her home Friday morning, May 21, at 3 o'clock. Mrs. Crouse had been ill of influenza and had recovered sufficiently to be about the house, but heart trouble developed and caused her death. She was a native of Washington county and was born February 26, 1845, a daughter of Rev. Henry Bennett, one of the pioneer ministers of the Christian church. She was married July 3, 1862, to Enos G. Crouse, who at that time was serving in the Civil war as a member of Company A, 15th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry. The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. William Leonard, one of the early ministers of the Christian church. Mr. Crouse died 33 years ago. Mrs. Crouse was an active member of the Rogersville Christian church. Five daughters and three sons survive as follows: Mr. Ella May Willison, of Sycamore, R. D. 2; Mrs. Alice Throckmorton, of Waynesburg; Mrs. Kate Wiley, Mrs. Winnifred Leonard, Rebecca Jane Crouse, Fred Crouse, Albert Y. Crouse, and Edward Crouse, all of Rogersville. She also leaves 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one brother, William Bennett, of Hundred, W. Va., and three sisters, Mrs. Ella Woodruff, of Hundred, W. Va., , and Mrs. George Throckmorton and Miss Virginia Bennett, of Rogersville. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, services being conducted in the Rogersville Christian church at 2 o'clock by the pastor, Rev. O. E. Bennett, assisted by Rev. Harold Zook, of Rogersville. Interment was in the Rosemont cemetery at Rogersville.

Mrs. Mary E. Crouse, widow of Enos G. Crouse, died at her home in Rogersville, Friday, May 21, aged 81 years, of heart trouble. Mrs. Crouse was a duaghter of Rev. Henry and Jane Vandergrift Bennett, deceased, and was born in Washington county. She was a member of the Rogersville Christian church. Eight children survive, A. Y., Edward, Fred and Miss Janie Crouse, Mrs. L. N. Wiley and Mrs. William Leonard, all of Rogersville; Mrs. Samuel Throckmorton, of Waynesburg, and Mrs. Frank Willison, of Sycamore; also three sisters, Mrs. Ella Woodruff of Hundred, W. Va.; Mrs. George Throckmorton and Miss Virginia Bennett, of Rogersville, and a brother, William Bennett, of Hundred, W. Va. The funeral services were held Sunday at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. O. E. Bennett, assisted by Rev. Harold Zook. Interment in Rosemont cemetery.
