Fredalynne Schmidlap was born June 19, 1930 in Zanesville, Ohio, the daughter of the Reverend Frederick D. and Olive Elizabeth (Roberts) Daubenbis. The Lord Jesus marked Fredi as one of His redeemed saints through the waters of Baptism on September 6, 1931 at Harmony Lutheran Church, Buffalo, Ohio. On April 20, 2005, Fredi was carried away by God's holy angels to be with her faithful Savior.
On October 2, 1948, Fredi married Glen Edward Schmidlap at St Paul Lutheran Church, Madison, Indiana, celebrating 41 wedding anniversaries before Glen's death on March 28, 1990. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Anne Gibson, married to Tim; Ruth Willis, married to Geoff; three sons, Edward Schmidlap and Roger Schmidlap both of Madison, John Schmidlap of Jacksonville, Fl., married to Vickie (Huttsell), ten grandchildren: Jennifer Lynn Cockerham, Elizabeth Anne Willis, Sara Marie Willis, Mary Elizabeth Gibson Murray, Stephen Wayne Gibson, Jason Frederick Schmidlap, Kathyrne Nicole Schmidlap Doerr, John Michael Schmidlap, Amanda Michelle Schmidlap, Amy Kay Schmidlap, Eighteen great grandchildren, Heather Nicole Schmidlap, James Logan Cockerham, Joshua Alexander Cockerham, Tyler Austin Murray, Sophia Grace Murray, Xaundra Frida Doerr, Zackary Wayne Murray, Eli Bennett and Mathew Marshall Doerr, Emma and Carter Padgett, Kashtyn Fox, Jayden and Storm Gibson, Astrid Violet Gibson, Ruth Ann-Marie, Penelope and Glen Schmidlap. Also remembered by her sister, Betty Schmelzter of Zanesville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Fredi had an associate degree in early childhood development and was a retired social worker for OVO Headstart. She was also a member of the International Order of the Kings Daughters' and Sons Just Us Circle.
Fredi served her church as organist for many years and was President of the LWML/Guild. She also loved to teach Sunday School classes.
