Bill Bailey

Veteran, Sheriff's Deputy and Firefighter
Bill Bailey, 83, died on Sunday, February 21, 2010. He was a lifelong resident of North Georgia and a member of Wallaceville Baptist Church, serving as the choir director for 26 years. Bill served his country during WW II in the U. S. Army before retiring from the Army National Guard after 28 years.
He served as a Walker County deputy under Sheriff Ralph Jones. He was a member of the Walker County Fire Department for 35 years and employed at Chattanooga Valley Middle School for 20 years. Bill also retired from Teamsters Local 515 30 years of service as a truck driver.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Ophillia Bailey; son, Ernest Bailey and 11 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Anna Bailey; sons, Daryl, Mike, Dennis and Daniel Bailey; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Land; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2010 in the funeral home chapel with Brother Michael Smith and Brother Sam Barrett officiating.
Interment will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 noon on Wednesday, and prior to the service on Thursday.
Arrangements are by W.L. Wilson and Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe, GA.
