Harvey Mashburn, Jr., 73, of Burkemont Rd. in Morganton died Friday, February 26, 2010 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory following a period of declining health. He was born April 19, 1936 in Haywood County, and was a son of the late Harvey Emmit Mashburn and Margretta Smiley Mashburn. Harvey was a devoted member of Mull's Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and choir director. He was a retired employee of Henredon Furniture with 44 years of service. Harvey loved life and everyone that he met. He was a wonderful husband, daddy (Pop), brother, and Papaw.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 54 years, Hazel R. Huskins Mashburn of the home; a daughter, Lynette Griffin and husband, Roger of Burnsville, NC; grandchildren, Teena L. Streett and Brian P. Streett, both of Morganton, and Tiphany Branch and husband, Bradley of Burnsville; great-grandchildren, Makenzie Branch, Paigelyn Branch, and Jamey Branch; and sisters, Gladys Bowen of Cranberry, NC, Thelma Morton, Hazel M. Mashburn, and Sharon Crisp, all of Morganton, and Geneva Penson of Forest City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jimmy Mashburn and Earl Mashburn; and a sister, Dorothy Buchanan.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Mull's Grove Baptist Church with Brother Bud Jernigan and Pastor Roger Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence on Burkemont Rd.
