Anthony Filipkowski was born 1887 in Pachuczyn (RC Parish of Kolno, province Lomza, Poland). Before the First World War, he emigrated to the US, together with his sister Anna (she became wife of F. Karwowski). At the beginning they lived in Detroit and then in St. Louis. Anthony returned to Poland during Polish War of Independence (1916-1920), and fought as a soldier of legendary Polish Army of General Józef Haller. In 1920 he came back to America.

He was a great Polish patriot and one of our forgotten heroes. In America, he was only a humble citizen and an ordinary worker.

We have always kept him in memory as a man of great heart.
