Martin H. Baumgarten, age 84, died on Monday, September 28, 1992 at the Reedsburg Memorial Hospital. Survivors include his wife Clara; four children, Lois (Reverend Richard) Strobel of Watertown, Lyle Baumgarten of Edgerton, Kansas, Charlene (Reverend Richard) Lauersdorf of Jefferson and David (Carol) Baumgarten of Prairie du Sac; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, three brothers, Reverend Edmund (Marie) Baumgarten of Oshkosh, William (Viola) Baumgarten of Loganville and Melvin Baumgarten of Loganville; a sister-in-law Mary Ellen Baumgarten of Reedsburg, nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Lorna Baumgarten in December 1991 and by five brothers, Herbert, Arthur, Paul, Otto and Erwin. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 1, 1992 at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH in Rock Springs.

Martin farmed two miles west of North Freedom until 1959 when he moved to a small retirement farm one mile south of North Freedom. Following his farming occupation he worked in construction of farm buildings and remodeling same.

He was a member of the Township of Freedom Board serving several term as Chairman. He served on the County Board for several terms as well. Martin enjoyed working on and fixing STUFF.

Martin was a life long member of St. John Lutheran Church where taught Sunday School for many years and served on the Council. He enjoyed music and sang in the choir from age 18 until a few years before his passing.
