Professional Wrestler. He started out as a catcher in AAA baseball for the San Francisco Giants, but his passion was wrestling. From the start of his career in 1955 until his retirement in the 1980s, he competed in every major wrestling promotion. Romero was brought into the Amarillo, Texas area by Terry Funk, and became the first Hispanic to ever compete in a Texas wrestling ring. His appearance helped to bring an end to racial segregation in professional wrestling. He achieved much success as a tag team wrestler, earning over 18 titles, and was also a notable singles champion. Romero's sons Steve, Chris, Mark and Ricky Jr. also made names for themselves in the sport, where they were known as the "Youngbloods". Chris and Mark Romero went on to own Amarillo's "Renegade Outlaw Wrestling" (ROW); Steve ("Jay Youngblood") died in September of 1985. Ricky Romero passed away at the age of 74, from complications of diabetes.
