Kenneth died at Botavia, V. A. Hospital in New York, USA on June 8, 1966. His sister Florence Ambeau made the funeral arrangements.

Kenneth Gordon Eldridge married Dorothy Dovie Chumbley in 1931. Kenneth and Dorothy had one daughter together, still living.

Dorothy lived in California with her family for many years before she became so ill she moved to be by one of her granddaughters in Arizona. She died on Auguts 31, 1996 in Litchfiled, Park, Maricopy County, Arizona and was cremeated and her ashes distributed into the sea to be where her husband spent most of his adult life on Militery Ships.

Kenneth spent most of his adult life in service of our country. Dorothy and his daughter spent a lot of time traveling to other countries and states to visit him as much as they could.

As a small boy Kenneth sailed his boat back and forth from NY to Canada on the Hudson River, bootlegging liquor. At 16 years old he ran away from NY and came to San Diego, Ca and lied about his age and joined the navy. Anyway he was in Long Beach, California with the Navy doing shore patrol when he went into a Western Union to send a telegram. Dorothy was working there as the teletype girl and also running a boarding house in Long Beach that Grandfather Chumbley had bought her. They were married in 1931.

Kenneth always wanted to be thought of as just a sailor. He served his country with honor and courage. He had ships torpedoed out from underneath him in WWII and was able to use his seamanship to save other sailors and even though they had been out to sea for several days, he was able to bring them home safely. He was over 6 feet tall and a very quiet man.

His cousin Allen B Eldridge 1915-Aug 10, 1944 was killed in France and is buried there in the Brittany American Cemetery.. Memorial #56352019...

Many of his family served our country in all branches of the Military all through history...
