PARENTS LEARN MARINE SON WAS KILLED IN ACTION Deceased Name: Marine 1st Lt. Grant Ridgway Ellis Marine 1st Lt. Grant Ridgway Ellis, 26, graduate and former football player at New Trier High school and the University of Pennsylvania, was killed in action in Korea on Sept. 30, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon T. Ellis, 207 Cumberland av., Kenilworth, have been notified.
Lt. Ellis joined the marine corps in 1943 and went on reserve status after the war. He was called to active duty in July and landed in Korea Sept. 26 or 27.
He was teaching in the St. Louis Country Day school, St. Louis, Mo., when recalled to service. Surviving besides his parents are his widow, the former Bernice Hughes, and their son, Robert, who was 1 year old yesterday; two brothers, Thomas and Robert, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Ridgway of Kenilworth. Lt. Ellis' home was in St. Louis.
