Woodrow M. Haines, 72, of 1025 North East Starlight Lane, Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Waynesburg, died in his home at 6:40 a.m., Sunday, April 14, 1985, following a long illness.

He was born February 23, 1913, in Franklin Township, a son of Cyrennes and Mary Stewart Haines.

He had lived in the Waynesburg area most of his life, moving to Port Charlotte six years ago.

Mr. Haines had worked as an engineer for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, retiring in 1971.

He served with the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 and was captured at Bataan. He was a prisoner of war for three years.

Mr. Haines was a lifetime member of the Disable American Veterans, Robert Lee Cochran Jr. Chapter No. 82, in Port Charlotte. He was also a member of James Farrell Post 330 of the American Legion.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Waynesburg and Englewood Fla.

Surviving are his wife, Louise Morris Haines; one son, one daughter, one brother, three granddaughters; and six stepchildren,

Three brothers, William, Wesley and Marmaduke, and a sister, Nellie Haines Pencals, are deceased.
