When Franklin D Hoadley was born on May 26, 1874, in New Ulm, Minnesota, his father, Howard, was 25 and his mother, Angeline, was 26. He had one son and three daughters with wife between 1896 and 1905. He was mostly a farmer but also operator for a steam shovel. He moved from state to state living in many states like Colorado, Minnesota, Florida, Kansas. In May of 1898 they were mustered into service in the 1st North Dakota Infantry. They left from San Francisco and landed in Manila. They helped capture Manila from the Spanish and then stayed there. The Philippine American war broke out and they fought in many skirmishes and kept a hold on the Philippines. After a long illness that he was suffering with in West Virginia he passed away at the Veterans Hospital.
