Arlington rites for Colonel Jesse Brumfield

Funeral services for Colonel Jesse William Brumfield were held July 6 at Walter Reed Memorial Chapel. Graveside services and burial with full military honors followed in Arlington National Cemetery.

Colonel Brumfield died on July l, at Walter Reed General Hospital after a long illness. He was 51.

Born in Belzoni, Colonel Brumfield was reared in Sallis where his mother, Mrs. Evelyn Brumfield still makes her home. Since entering active military duty in 1940, Colonel Brumfield held numerous key positions in this country and overseas. Among his medals and awards were the Bronze Star, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and Korean Service Medal.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Mississippi State College in 1936 and his Master of Science degree in health and physical education from Louisiana State University the following year.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Dorothy M. Brumfield, and two sons, Jesse W. Brumfield and David H. Brumfield, all of the home address, Silver Springs, Maryland; his mother; two brothers, Charles Brumfield of Steen, and Lt. Colonel Hunter Marion Brumfield, now stationed in Korea; and two sisters, Mrs. Claude Dodson of Granby, Conn., and Mrs. Maury Humphries of Dayton, Ohio.
