John was serving in the US Army Reserves before going in active duty. He arrived in Vietnam 13 September 1969, where he was assigned to H Troop, 17th Calvary, 198th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, USARV.
John and his crew died of fragmentation wounds to the body when the APC they were traveling in detonated a 1000 pound booby trapped hostile mine, about 8 kilometers southwest of Binh Son.
Lt Roberts served his country for 2 years.
Survived by his wife, Karen S Roberts of Palatine, IL and his parents, Mr and Mrs John Roberts Jr of Baltimore, Maryland.
